ALL THAT YOU TOUCH
I have been finishing up my Nilsson collection. There were about 7 records I did not have (for a long time) and I have found most of them recently. (I have 2 to go) Each time I find one I end up going home, playing it and then somehow end up spinning this… a truly slept on masterpiece. It is as beautiful, weird, quirky and out and out anachronistic. Meaning, it’s an awesome Nilsson record.
While spinning it you tell why is was a commercial failure. It is not of 1977. It’s Nilsson singing beautifully, in front of an orchestra with NO ROCK MUSIC involved. In 1977 that spelled DOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Add to that what is possibly the worst cover ever designed and a title that adds nothing and, once again, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
I don’t really know how to convey to you how beautiful much of this record is except to drop links to two of the most beautiful songs below. And of course there’s a joke song, ala Coconut, which kind of gives itself away early on but it’s so fun you just wait for his shouting at the fade.
If you are able to live with lovely pop music that doesn’t bam boom pop you, I would whole heartedly recommend this LP.
