HAVE YOU NO SENSE OF DECENCY?
You may be expecting this to be a diatribe agains the current pResident of the U.S. but no, that’s not this.
This is about us. People in general. And this is NOT directed at our lives and what we do and how we live and who we love and everything that makes us who we are.
This is about the need to put our ‘false lives’ on blast for everyone to see. And mostly I’m thinking the non-reality that I see on TV. Shows purporting to dig deep into ‘just folks’ as they manufacture peaks and valleys that show people at their worst.
The peanut butter & dirt sandwiches that people eat every day as sad folks with no hope, and little else going on, tell stores about how they married their sibling while sleeping with their mother and there needs to be a paternity test on someone because of that night back in august when every male at K-Mart may have had sex with the woman who was on the rebound from breaking up with the staff at Target. #23, YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER.
The inherent sadness that comes with watching as people desperate for attention have their lives filmed and edited to make us feel better about our circumstances, our lives, the choices we’ve made.
Is this the result of people believing that their lives will only have meaning if it’s there for everyone to see?
Or is it actually our need to believe that we are superior?
I opt for the latter. It’s sad what people will do for attention, for just a little “you’re special.”
But for those of us who watch the humiliating destruction of people’s lives.
Where is our decency?
IF YOU DON’T WATCH, IT WON’T EXIST.
Lately I’ve been wondering if this is next on the schedule. Actual death broadcast into our homes. People killing themselves. People Killing others. Random carnage and mayhem. I’ve often joked that NASCAR will become even more popular when every driver gets a handgun and a hand grenade. The ratings will explode like car number #77 on the back turn.
